Today we are featuring Nyasha Green from Camden, South Carolina. Black people in WordPress are consistently building, designing, and moving the open source project forward. In this series, we highlight members of the BlackPress Slack channel who are doing amazing things with WordPress.
What do you do? What are you passionate about?
I am the editorial director for MasterWP and a Software Developer. I love cooking, traveling, singing, dancing, reading, and writing.
How and when did you get started with WordPress?
My first professional tech job was an internship for a small company that created and maintain websites for clients using Joomla and WordPress. My first memorable experience was creating a website for a local black company on my own. It was amazing to help someone with my skills and I was very proud of my work.
How do you use WordPress?
I write about things going on in the WordPress community and I also mentor newbies who may be interested in a career in WordPress or tech in general.
How has the WordPress software or community helped you to grow or helped you accomplish a goal?
I am the keeper of our family tree work in my family and I used my WordPress skills to create an interactive family tree website so the older members of our family could access the information of our ancestors in an easier way.
What is something you’d like to do or build with WordPress in the future?
I would like to build a food/travel blog that has me trying different food all over the world. Kind of like Diners, Dives and Drives but I would call it Nyasha’s New Noodles or something like that.
