Today we are featuring Ken Elliott from Columbia, South Carolina. Black people in WordPress are consistently building, designing, and moving the open source project forward. In this series, we highlight members of the BlackPress Slack channel who are doing amazing things with WordPress.
What do you do? What are you passionate about?
I love to read and help others learn the things I’ve been taught.
How and when did you get started with WordPress?
I didn’t start fully utilizing WordPress until 2011. I was looking for an easier way to create and modify the nightlife social media website that my business partner and I were managing. After a year of growth, we were bought out by another company with that same name getting overlooked by Anheuser-Busch.
How do you use WordPress?
We are using WordPress to provide marketing solutions to small- and medium-sized businesses looking to grow their online visibility.
How has the WordPress software or community helped you to grow or helped you accomplish a goal?
The interconnectivity of the community is so strong. It’s easy to find someone that needs your services or find someone who services can help you. I have been interviewed by WordPress podcasters, spotlighted by WordPress newsletters, and even recommended to provide assistance to new and upcoming WordPress developers.
What is something you’d like to do or build with WordPress in the future?
I need to work on my podcast. I want to build a WordPress website that will house all of my podcast episodes to share with my friends and loved ones.
